Silverback Plus Tension Release
Regular price $257.99 Save $-257.99The Silverback Plus Tension Release is the world’s leading tension-activated release, engineered to perfect your shooting technique through consistent back tension. When buck fever hits or target panic creeps in, this release delivers what others can’t: a surprise shot that breaks at the exact moment your form is perfect.
By activating through continual pressure against the bow’s back wall after safety release, the Silverback Plus forces proper form and follow-through. Its carefully designed grip complements the Nock 2 It series, creating a seamless transition between training and competition.
For bowhunters and target archers serious about breaking through accuracy plateaus, the Silverback Plus is your most trustworthy tool.
The Silverback Plus tension release changes your shooting approach from defensive to offensive. Unlike hinge releases that force you to wait for activation, the Silverback Plus puts you in complete control, driving your elbow back with increasing pressure until the release fires.
This active shooting approach builds shot commitment, eliminates anticipation, and creates a dynamic shot process that transfers perfectly to hunting situations. The tension activation trains you to build consistent wall pressure and understand your draw curve, creating an ideal foundation for accurate shooting.
At the heart of the Silverback Plus sits a precision spring mechanism that activates based on specific pressure thresholds. The standard configuration features a 43-pound spring with an adjustable range from 14–28 pounds of tension.
Every two turns of the adjustment screw equals about one pound of tension change, allowing for precise customization to match your bow’s holding weight and your personal shooting style. For complete customization, three additional springs (30-pound, 50-pound, and 59-pound) come included, delivering activation ranges from 11–39 pounds.
The Silverback Plus features an intuitive safety lever that prevents premature activation during your draw cycle. This critical safety feature lets you reach full draw position before engaging the tension mechanism, allowing proper anchor and sight alignment before building back tension.
The safety system creates confidence during high-pressure shooting situations. You can be sure the release won’t activate until you’re fully prepared and committed to the shot.
The Silverback Plus grip profile perfectly complements the Nock 2 It series for seamless training transitions.
The handle sits firmly along your knuckle line, creating a consistent hand position shot after shot. The grip angle promotes proper finger placement with 60% pressure on your index finger and 40% on your middle finger, establishing ideal leverage for consistent activation. This thoughtful ergonomics prevents hand fatigue during long practice sessions and creates absolute consistency in hunting situations.
For most archers shooting a 70-pound bow with 80% letoff (14-pound holding weight), starting four to five pounds over holding weight creates an ideal activation point. This approximately 19-pound activation weight balances control and surprise.
New shooters often benefit from slightly higher settings while developing consistent back tension. As your technique improves, you can gradually reduce the activation weight for a more refined shot process.
Lock the release along your middle knuckle line with a firm, rigid grip. Keep your hand completely flat against the handle with fingers securely wrapped around the grip. This hand position prevents inconsistent leverage that can affect activation weight.
When executing your shot, think “pull, pull, pull” rather than anticipating release. This mental approach maintains proper form through activation.
Always engage the safety when drawing your bow. Draw to full position, establish your anchor, acquire your target, and then disengage the safety before beginning to apply back tension.
This sequence ensures consistent activation and prevents premature firing during your draw cycle, building confidence in high-pressure situations.

The Silverback Plus tension release provides the perfect complement to hinge-style shooting, creating an offensive approach to your shot process. While hinges teach patience and static holding, the Silverback Plus builds dynamic shot commitment and proper back tension.
Many top archers, including John Dudley himself, start their season with the Silverback Plus to establish proper form before transitioning to hinge releases for refinement. This training sequence develops complete shooting versatility for any hunting or target situation.
For anyone battling target panic or seeking to break through accuracy plateaus, the Silverback Plus tension release delivers the perfect combination of surprise activation and proper form development, making it the most trusted back tension release in archery.
The Silverback Plus is absolutely designed for hunting. In fact, the tension activation is advantageous in hunting scenarios because it forces you to commit to the shot rather than getting stuck in the aiming process.
When that buck steps out and your heart rate spikes, the Silverback Plus eliminates the freeze-up that happens with traditional releases. You’re actively working through the shot with purpose, which is exactly what you need when the moment of truth arrives. The surprise break prevents you from anticipating the shot and flinching, even under extreme pressure.
The safety system is foolproof when used correctly.
Always engage the safety lever before drawing, and only disengage it after you’ve reached full draw, established your anchor, and acquired your target. The release can’t fire while the safety is engaged. Once you disengage the safety, you’re in complete control of when the shot breaks through your back tension.
This isn’t a hair trigger. It requires deliberate, increasing pressure against the back wall to activate.
Start with four to five pounds over your bow’s holding weight. If you’re shooting a 70-pound bow with 80% letoff (14 pounds of holding weight), begin at around 19 pounds of activation weight. This gives you enough resistance to build proper back tension while still providing a surprise break.
You can always adjust from there. If it’s too heavy and you struggle to activate it, back it down. If it’s firing too easily without proper form, increase the tension. The goal is to find that sweet spot where proper back tension makes it fire.
Absolutely. The Silverback Plus is easier to learn than a hinge release because you control when it fires through your pulling motion.
Start with a higher tension setting while you develop the feel for building back pressure. Practice at close range first, focusing on the pulling motion rather than trying to aim perfectly. Learn to trust the process — pull, pull, pull until it breaks rather than trying to time the release.
Once you develop this mindset, your accuracy will improve dramatically because you’re no longer anticipating the shot.
Expect a point of impact change when switching to any new release. Most right-handed shooters see a slight left impact shift compared to their previous release. This is normal and easily corrected with sight adjustments.
I recommend marking your sight settings or counting clicks so you can quickly switch between releases if needed. The important thing is to sight in with the Silverback Plus and stick with it. Don’t keep switching back and forth, as this defeats the purpose of building consistency.
Think of them as complementary tools rather than competing options. The Silverback Plus teaches you to actively make shots happen through committed back tension, while a hinge teaches patience and static holding.
I use the Silverback Plus early in the season to rebuild proper form and shot commitment after the off-season, then transition to hinge releases for fine-tuning. The tension release is more forgiving for hunting situations because you’re driving the shot process, while hinges require more precise execution.
Both deliver surprise shots, but through different approaches — offensive versus defensive shooting.
Back Strap Tension-Activated Wrist Release
Regular price $229.99 Save $-229.99The Nock On Back Strap solves one of archery’s biggest problems: starting with a wrist strap release that leads to punching the trigger and freezing on target.
This tension-activated wrist release brings proven back tension principles to a comfortable wrist strap design. After years of coaching archers through target panic issues, we’ve built a release that lets you safely draw, anchor properly, and get a true surprise shot every time.
When that buck steps into range, this release delivers rock-solid performance.
The Back Strap uses a practical safety system that actually works in the field. Draw your bow with your finger behind the trigger, anchor solid, then squeeze the trigger to deactivate the safety. Now pull back against the wall to your preset weight until your shot breaks with a total surprise — no punching, no freezing, just a clean break.
This release brings proper shooting technique to a wrist strap design, giving you the benefits of back tension while keeping the familiar feel many hunters prefer.
We’ve licensed a BOA strap system that flat-out works in the field. It’s the same tech used in quality snowboard boots and running shoes, so you know it’s built to last.
Just push the dial and tighten it to your comfort level, whether you’re in a T-shirt or bundled up. Done shooting? Just lift the dial, hear the click, and slide your hand right out.
No more fumbling with Velcro or D-loops that never hit the right spot. This is comfortable, quiet, and built for real hunting conditions.
The Back Strap uses the same internal mechanism as our Silverback Plus series, giving you tension adjustment from nine up to 40 pounds of pull tension with just one spring. No need to swap springs or components. Just turn the Allen wrench and you’re set.
A little adjustment goes a long way — usually just a quarter turn makes a noticeable difference. For best results of firing tension, set it about four to six pounds over your bow’s holding weight (e.g., if you’re at 80% let-off on a 70-pound bow, you’re holding 14 pounds, so set the release around 18-20 pounds, which is right where it comes out of the package).
The Back Strap is built super compact — no more bulky releases hanging off your wrist. The open-hook design makes loading onto your D-loop quick and clean, even with cold hands or low light. Just hook and go. The jaw opens smoothly and reliably every time.
We’ve kept everything tight and minimal without sacrificing durability, because we know this release needs to perform season after season in tough conditions.
The jaw is a reverse design that opens away from your face, giving you ideal clearance with a beard or face mask.
What really separates the Back Strap from anything else out there is that you can use it two ways: Set it up for proper tension activation to build good habits and eliminate target panic, or quickly adjust it to work just like a standard index release if that’s what you need for a specific hunting situation.
This isn’t just a release. It’s also the ultimate training tool that’ll improve your shot process. Perfect for new shooters avoiding bad habits or experienced archers looking to clean up their form.
The Back Strap works in a straightforward, practical way:
Need to use it like a standard index trigger release? Just back out the tension screw until it’s about flush with the casing, tighten the set screw, and you’re good to go. It works just like the wrist strap you’re used to.
Through years of coaching, I’ve seen one problem more often than any other: new archers starting with a wrist strap release, developing the habit of punching the trigger, and ending up with target panic or buck fever.
The Back Strap fixes this issue by bringing proper back tension principles to a familiar wrist strap design.
The concept is simple but powerful: Trust your pin float, pull through the shot, and let it break with a surprise. This is the same technique used by top competitive archers worldwide and now available in a format that works for both training and hunting.
If you’ve struggled with freezing under the target or punching your release, or if you just want to build better shooting habits from the start, the Back Strap will help you get there. No gimmicks, no compromises — just solid technique built into a practical design that performs when it matters.
The BOA system is incredibly durable — it’s the same technology used in high-end snowboard boots and cycling shoes.
To tighten, just push down on the BOA dial and rotate for perfect micro-adjustment. For removal, simply lift the BOA dial until it clicks and slide your hand out. This allows for much better adjustability than traditional Velcro straps, especially when wearing different clothing layers or gloves.
Most archers can use their existing peep setup without changes. For proper form, place your index knuckle at the base of your earlobe, with your thumb slightly relaxed under your jawline. This position typically maintains your existing peep height.
If needed, you can make minor D-loop adjustments more easily than with handheld releases, since wrist releases don’t create the same string torque concerns.
The Back Strap adjusts from nine to 40 pounds with a single spring — no need to swap components like with older releases. One full turn changes the activation weight by approximately 10 pounds, so small adjustments make a big difference.
For most setups, set it to fire at four to six pounds over your bow’s holding weight. For example, if you’re shooting a 70-pound bow with 80% let-off (14 pounds holding weight), start with the tension around 19–20 pounds, which is how it comes out of the package.
Absolutely. After drawing and squeezing the trigger to deactivate the safety, you can simply release pressure on the trigger to re-engage the safety, allowing you to let down safely. This makes the Back Strap practical for hunting situations where you might need to hold and then let down.
Yes, you’ll likely notice a different point of impact compared to other releases. This follows the common archery principle that when you change anything, you change everything.
Most right-handed shooters find they hit slightly left with the Back Strap compared to handheld releases. Adjust your sight accordingly, and consider marking your sight or counting clicks so you can quickly switch between releases if needed.
Both releases use the same internal tension mechanism, but determining which one is better comes down to personal preference.
The Back Strap is ideal if you prefer having your release always attached to your wrist or you’re transitioning from a traditional wrist strap. The Silverback Plus might be better if you prefer a handheld release’s feel and anchor position. Both provide the same tension-activated surprise shot, just with different anchor positions and handling characteristics.
Yes. The BOA system accommodates wrists as small as 5.75″ in diameter, making it comfortable for youth archers, women, and anyone with smaller wrists. The adjustable cord length also ensures proper trigger positioning regardless of hand size.

Smooth Operator Thumb Peg Upgrade
Regular price $29.99 Save $-29.99The Smooth Operator is a super unique custom thumb peg that boosts the feel, timing and accuracy of any release on the market. Unlike parallel cylinder shaped barrels, the Smooth Operator is shaped perfectly for the natural convex shape of the thumb. It perfectly fits right where you want to seat your peg for a crisp activation. What makes this instantly improve your feel is that it's polished, smooth as silk and prevents the brain linking trigger friction with the movement of the thumb. No-one wants "Trigger Anticipation" and the one thing that causes that to happen is when your brain senses any movements on the trigger. By polishing up the friction points, we have changed the feel that your brain has programmed the association with anticipation.
This peg improves the experience of all 3 types of releases including the Trigger, Tension and Hinge activations.
BRASS & ALUMINUM! The Smooth Operator is available in both Aluminum & Brass and is fully machined in the USA. Unlike cheap plastic barrels, these are robust, won't strip out and have a difference in feel between the lighter aluminum and beefier brass, depending on your preference.
HOW IT WORKS ON DIFFERENT STYLES
Trigger Releases (like the Nock2It)- The hour glass shape lets you wrap the thumb in a perfect pre-loading portion on the first thumb joint and curl the thumb tip to a super repetitive position. With a narrower center, you can really curl the tip of the thumb to preload more finger in front of the leverage point of the trigger sear making it an unpredictable crisp release when pulling through.
Tension Release (Silverback +)- For me this peg has totally improved my feel and consistency with the Silverback Release. I've been using a tension release exclusively this season and this smooth peg is so nice for easing your thumb off the safety peg after settling into your anchor position and pulling through without friction or hangups. Unlike the knurled barrels on the market, the Smooth Operator glides over any finger print without detection.
Hinge Release (2 Smooth or Any Other)- This new Peg Shape is a total game changer for a hinge release. The key to the hinge release is the pivot of the release gliding like glass without any prediction of when it's going off. This peg lets it slide like silk while rotating and relaxing the other fingers to pivot the release.
